The Phone

A smartphone designed to respect you. Built around privacy, real durability, and materials chosen on purpose. This is what happens when the design starts with the person holding it.

Cioré is pronounced like core.
This is the first official concept of the phone. All visuals and details shown here are concepts until the device is built. We have heard your requests around different casing options and our team is actively working on this. Updates will be posted here when the time comes.

The foundation

Why this phone feels different

Privacy first You stay in control of what your phone shares

On many phones, apps talk to each other in the background and ask for access they do not truly need. That is part of why you can mention something in conversation and later see an ad that feels too close.

On Cioré, the system is built to block that kind of hidden tracking as much as possible. You will see when an app asks for access. You choose what it can see. Permissions are described in plain language. You stay in control of what each app can use.

Built to sip energy from light and warmth Three quiet energy sources working in the background
Solar light captured passively throughout the day
Ambient indoor light absorbed even when you are inside
Biothermic energy from the natural warmth of your hand

When you are out in the world, you can turn these options on so your phone quietly pulls small amounts of energy from light and warmth. It helps stretch battery life so you are not always rushing for a charger.

Modular by design Built to be opened, repaired, and upgraded

Most phones are sealed shut with glue and clips. Cioré uses a screw based assembly instead. When it is time to swap a part like a battery or camera, it is built to be straightforward with clear guidance. Many people will be able to do simple swaps themselves, and others can use a repair partner instead.

Eco friendly materials and ethical sourcing Care put into where the phone comes from

We spent months researching alternative and ethical materials for the phone down to the circuit level. We care about the planet and about people, so we work with suppliers who share that. Our partners are expected to avoid exploitation and harmful practices and to be transparent about how parts are made.

Your control over what your phone does Knowing what is happening and having the power to decide

Protecting your data is not just about blocking things in the background. It is about giving you the ability to see what is happening and make your own decisions about it.

Know when an app is using AI and what it is requesting
Understand what is happening in plain language, not buried settings
Choose what you allow, change your mind, and have that choice respected
This is an active area of work as we build the OS and listen to our community

Features Worth Knowing About

Biometric Unlock Unlock with your face, ear print, or motion signature. Facial templates are stored as encrypted data in secure on-device hardware. All biometric data stays protected on the device.
Encrypted Messaging Encrypted messaging across Cioré devices. Messages are protected so only the people in the conversation can read them.
GPS and Offline Navigation Preloaded offline maps with turn by turn navigation. Uses open data so it can still guide you when the network is weak or unavailable.
Sound and Audio Directional microphones and digital processing that shapes sound for clearer calls and listening based on your environment.
Audio Guardian On-device analysis that identifies harmful volume levels or harsh patterns and warns you when listening might harm your hearing.
Cross Platform Video Calls Place video calls to people on many different phones. The person you call does not need to download a special app.
Gaia X A small on device tool designed to help balance battery life across our different energy sources. It stays on your phone and does not collect personal data. You can toggle it off. Our team is also considering removing it entirely and building that intelligence directly into the operating system instead.
Plain Language Updates System updates are described in simple line items so you can see exactly what is changing in everyday language before you agree to install anything.

A note from our team

Your Control Over AI

You may not always know when an app on your phone is using AI or what it is doing. We want to change that.

What we heard

The majority of people on our waitlist do not want AI on their device, even with the option to turn it off. We take that seriously and it is informing how we build.

People want to know when AI is involved, not just have a setting to turn it off
This feedback is actively shaping our decisions
What we are building toward

Think of how your phone shows a small dot when an app uses your microphone. We are working on something similar for AI. When an app is using AI in the background, you would see it.

A clear signal when any app is using AI
A plain explanation of what it is requesting and why
The ability to allow or block it on the spot
This is part of our OS work and still in research

From our community

We Hear You

Our community has been vocal about what they want in a phone. We read every message and take that input seriously. Here is what we are hearing most and where we stand.

Physical Keyboards A number of people on our waitlist have asked for a physical keyboard option. This is something our team is aware of and has noted. We are looking at what is realistic as we develop the hardware.
Modular Buttons We have received requests for customizable and modular button layouts. This fits well with our modular design approach and is something we are keeping in mind as the hardware takes shape.
Audio Jack People have asked us to bring back the headphone jack. We hear that. It is on our list of considerations as we finalize the hardware design.
Different Casing Options Our community has shared a wide range of ideas around the shape and casing of the phone. Our team is actively exploring this. When we have updates to share, this page will reflect that.

Your input is genuinely shaping what we build. If you have a request that is not listed here, send it through the contact page. We read every message.

FAQ

FAQ

Questions and answers below.

How do I pronounce the name of your company?

Cioré is pronounced like core.

Is this real? Can you actually build this phone?

Our team has spent months doing the work behind the images. We are researching components, talking with suppliers, and planning around real technical limits. The path is first a working prototype, then testing, then a device you can hold. We treat this as an engineering project.

How do you know this phone will really protect my privacy?

The operating system controls what apps can do and see. We start from a hardened open Android base and add our own privacy rules. Apps get less access by default, run in tighter spaces, and you get clearer controls over things like camera, microphone, location, and contacts.

What does privacy first actually mean on your phone?

Privacy first means protections are on from the start. You see when an app wants access. Permissions are narrow and explained in plain language. Apps are kept in containers so they cannot quietly dig through your other data or follow you across the whole device.

Is the phone fully solar powered?

No. The phone is solar assisted. You still charge it in the usual ways, but small surfaces pull extra energy from light and warmth to support the battery and help slow the drop between charges.

How will the solar and biothermal system work day to day?

You still plug in your phone. Between charges, small surfaces pick up light on your desk, more energy outside in sunlight, and a little warmth from your hand. These are small streams of power that work together to stretch your battery life.

What do you mean by modularity and will I have to be technical to use it?

Modularity means the phone is built to be opened and serviced, not sealed and thrown away. We use a screw based design so key parts can be replaced. Many people will be able to swap simple parts with clear instructions. If you prefer, you can have a repair partner do it for you.

What do you mean when you say the phone is eco friendly?

We spent months studying materials and components, including at the circuit level, to choose safer and more sustainable options where we can. We also vet suppliers for ethical sourcing and avoid partners that rely on harmful or exploitative practices.

What does the phone look like and when will we see more?

You are seeing the concept design on this page. As the design improves, we will share more views. As we move closer to hardware, our community will see fuller previews and can send feedback on what we are building.

You mentioned AI on the device. How is your AI ethical?

Our AI is designed to run on the phone instead of in large remote data centers. More of your data stays on your device. We focus on local processing, less data leaving your phone, and features that respect your control. You can turn it on or off at any time.

Will this phone work with the apps I already use?

We are building on the Android ecosystem, so many familiar apps will work. The difference is that we run them in tighter spaces and give you more control over what they can see. Some apps that ask for too much access may be discouraged or blocked with clear reasons and safer options.

Will carriers support this phone?

We are designing the phone to work with common carrier standards so you can use a usual SIM or eSIM. As we move closer, we will publish a list of supported carriers and regions so you can check your own.

How will I know which parts and materials are in my phone?

Each phone will show a clear list of materials and key parts. From the device you will be able to see what it is made of, which parts are replaceable, and how to order pieces if something wears out or breaks.

Is this only for tech professionals?

No. It is for anyone who feels uneasy about how much their phone knows. You do not need to know the technical terms. We translate protections into a calmer, clearer experience so you can just live your life with more trust in your device.

If I am interested, what role do I play in making this real?

Your interest helps prove that people want private, repairable, honest devices. Following the project, sharing feedback, and staying engaged tell us this work matters and guide what we build next.
