About Cioré

A phone experience built around people

Uniquely Yours

A product with a purpose

Cioré is working toward a phone that puts people first.

We are making a device designed to last longer, give you clearer control over privacy, and treat your everyday life with respect. Our Explore page goes deeper on the technology.

Why Cioré exists

Phones should work better for people

Smartphones are part of everyday life. People use them to stay connected, work, learn, take pictures, get directions, and manage important parts of their day.

Many people feel that phones ask too much from them and give too little control in return. Cioré exists because we think people deserve better choices.

Phones are replaced too soon

A phone can still have useful parts, but a broken screen, worn battery, missing updates, or expensive repair can make replacement feel like the only option. That creates more electronic waste and makes people spend money before they should have to.

Phones and apps can know too much

Phones and apps can collect details about where people go, what they search for, who they talk to, what they buy, and how they use their device. People deserve a clearer understanding of what information is being requested, why it is needed, and what choices they have.

How a phone is made matters

People care about where a phone's parts and materials come from, how workers and communities may be affected, and what happens when a device reaches the end of its life. Cioré wants to ask better questions about sourcing, labor, materials, repair, waste, and the choices behind every device.

AI should be a choice

AI is being added to more phones and apps, even when people did not ask for it. Some people find it useful. Others want to decide when it is used, what information it can access, and whether it belongs in their everyday phone experience. Cioré believes people should have clearer information and more choice.

Core principles

What we stand for

  • A phone worth keeping

We are exploring ways to make Cioré easier to repair and keep for longer.

  • Thoughtful materials

Careful questions about components, where they come from, and waste.

  • Accessibility from the start

We want to consider different bodies, senses, and needs from the start.

  • AI by choice

We want people to understand when AI may be involved and choose what they are comfortable using.

  • Honest progress

We share what we are learning, what we are building, and what still needs work. Simple updates and plain language, always.

  • Building with people

Cioré is shaped by people who share ideas, feedback, research, creative work, and practical knowledge as the project grows.

Going the extra mile

Things we are working on

Lumé OS: Clear screens and simple choices

Lumé OS is the phone software we are developing. It shapes what you see on screen and how you interact with your device. We are designing it to make everyday phone use feel calm, straightforward, and easier to understand through plain-language settings and clear notices.

Gaia: Awareness and choice around AI

Gaia is an AI indicator we are researching and developing to help our users have more control over their interaction with AI. It is not meant to be a required assistant. It is about giving people more visibility and more choice.

Hardware and energy research

We are exploring practical ways a phone might make better use of energy during everyday life, including support from everyday light and warmth from use. This work is still being researched.

Our audience

For people who:

  • Want simple, straightforward privacy settings
  • Are tired of replacing devices every few years
  • Care about repairability, electronic waste, and material impact
  • Want choice over whether AI is part of their phone experience
  • Value accessible and human-centered design
